Linda (Kathy) Kathryn Mitchell, 50, of Bunceton, MO, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at the home of her parents, Warren and Mary George in Bunceton. She was born May 24, 1957 in Higginsville, MO.
Kathy graduated from Neosho High School in 1975. She attended two years of college at Crowder College in Neosho and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was employed by the National Park Service for three seasons at Cades Cove, Great Smokey Mountain National Park in Tennessee and one season at Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia. She was also employed by Hamilton Stores in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming for one season.
Joining the army in 1986, she served in San Francisco and the Hawaiian islands. After four years of service, she began working for the Department of Family Services first in St. Joseph, MO, then transferring to Boonville, MO in 1994. She continued working with the DFS until retiring with a disability for health reasons. She then endured a long and painful battle against cancer.
Kathy was very passionate about family and life on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, planting trees, and protecting the environment. She loved to go camping, hiking, and fishing, and enjoyed hobbies like pottery, woodworking, and mountain music.
Kathy is survived by her two sons, Sawyer, 13, and Cord, 9. Also surviving are her parents, Warren and Mary George; two brothers and two sisters and their spouses: Larry and Myra George of Sedalia, MO; Gary and Carla George of Neosho, MO; Beverly and Jerry Greever of California, MO; and Penny and Padraic Brady of Cedar Creek, MO; an aunt, Minnie Layne of Bunceton, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Bunceton Federated Church, Saturday, September 1, 2007. The family will receive friends from 9-10 am. Services will follow at 10 am. Private graveside services will be held by the family later at the Masonic Cemetery in Bunceton.
